Not moving an inch, going down to the pit of my thoughts. I try to listen to my heartbeat, so many there.

I'll sort out my thoughts, plans and hope to make headway in a few hours... no days before I get the axe swinging down my neck, or arms...

I feel off spinning but... I don't know... really.

So, I found myself at Gloria Jeans sipping coffee because I wanted the free WIFI. I plugged my power supply to the socket labeled "We charge 25/hour". Eh!?

I did the math: 90+ for the cappuccino + 25 for the electric = 115 for an hour. If I stay for two hours it will be 140 pesos. I was the only one there with street urchins finishing off the cups of coffee outside.

It's costly, yes, but it's better than in an internet cafe. Convenience vs. low cost, I'll take convenience, anytime and as long as my pocket can take it. Ca-ching!

Inkscape - Draw Freely

I came across this software called "Inkscape". I got to know Inkscape when I read Ponoko.com's newsletter.

Inkscape is an open-source vector graphics editor similar to Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, Freehand, or Xara X. What sets Inkscape apart is its use of Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), an open XML-based W3C standard, as the native format.

The name is made up of the two English words 'ink' and 'scape'. Ink is a common substance for drawings, and is used when the sketched work is ready to be permanently committed to paper, and thus evokes the idea that Inkscape is ready for production work. I'm currently based in Cebu City right now for work. It's been a long time since my last post, whew!

A lot of things are going my way. A web design here, work there and family visits every two weeks. I had a hard time adjusting to the city life but am managing.

Thanks to the internet, I can continue my web chores at pinoycentric.com and ambibo.com. The wonders of modern technology no?

I hope to improve on my posting average and would really love to see my blog updated more than now.

Plugins + Wordpress = PinoyCentric

I have done some minor mods to PinoyCentric the last few weeks. The upgrade to the latest version of WordPress went without a hiccup. I was bracing for the untold break-up of plugins and codes but it went without a hitch.

I'll be posting the plugins we've used to run this new pinoy themed blog and hopefully be of use to you. I have a dozen ++ plugins within the site and they all solved a lot of trouble in maintaining and producing relevant content.

Remember the Milk

I browsed through slate.com's article on web based application that might render Microsoft's demise. The article goes like this:

"Office isn't the only Microsoft hegemony that Google Gears could help destroy. One of the defining differences between Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux is the application lineup. That's given the crew in Redmond, Wash., tremendous power: It's not purely happenstance that Mac users wait longer for new versions of Office and never get some programs, such as Outlook and Access. But technologies like Gears render the operating system largely irrelevant. Remember the Milk couldn't care less whether it's running in Internet Explorer on Windows or in Firefox on a Mac. Neither could I, since it's exactly the same useful service on both platforms. If productivity applications migrate to the browser, you could choose whatever OS you pleased--your apps would work anywhere and everywhere..."

I'm testing the online app "Remember the Milk" in exchange for outlook or opera's widget of "To do" list. Give it a spin too.

Custom DNS in Blogger

I am setting up a custom DNS for a blog hosted in Blogger. I have found a good tip from hcfoo and followed the instructions there.

I am here for some days of accompanying my mother who had her health checked by specialists.

So far so good. She's got some bounce in her walk now when she knew she's ok.

I had a fine time looking for wifi hotspots around town too. I had seen one in Mangosquare, another near Chong hua and at Royal Crown Traverse hotel in Guadalupe. I haven't tried those in Mangosquare and nearby Chong hua but at the Royal Crown Traverse works.

This is important for me as I begin to adapt myself in the city since am looking forward to working back here.

Now, if only I can spare some chips for an extra battery for my laptop...

I got some new projects going on and a renewed interest with 3d modeling. Whew!

Write to my Blog

I just stumbled upon a nice blogging tool called "Write to my blog". It is web based with many options for formatting your entry. Stuff like flickr, youtube, making tables in posts, etc.

I did this entry using Write to my Blog.

Upon clicking "Manage Posts", it will redirect to your blog account and after verification, it will revert to the web interface. What I like with this tool are the many options I can use for formatting my entry (as mentioned). Let's fire some tests:Blah! Blah! Blah underlined, i added a table (below and made some border color select)

I have to click the html icon to get pass this table, so far so good. :)

Verdict

You have to set to "NO" in formatting if line breaks are to be converted. This will introduce huge spaces between lines and so much more if you add "tables". I re-edited the html to make the post display correctly.
I'd still use blogger's posting tool or scribfire. Some of the features I like in Write to my Blog can be done in another html formatting tool like Dreamweaver or Pspad.
Having an above than dial-up internet connection poses some problems for me while using Write to my Blog. It takes time to open the buttons in a pop-up window and that it's too small for me to view all options (like when I added a table) and I can't resize the window (I am using Flock, by the way). I can't upload an image too which is one of my often used feature when blogging.
I give this service a 3.5 rating.

Random Photo from your flickr album

I did some late and early morning search of displaying a random photo in my blog. I did alright after I pasted the html badge flickr generated. What about adding the title of the image?

After a few minutes of searching, I found this website that did just what I wanted: Displaying titles for Flickr Badges | clagnut/blog

I viewed the source code and here's how I did mine:

Use the code generated for html badge. Be sure you did choose 1 picture to show only. Layout won't matter. Paste your source code after the "src=" tag (see !-- change the source #1 )

You should change the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/pinoycentric/"> into your account (after photos, type your album account: not your username). See (!-- change the source #2)

I advise that you remove the comment tags (!-- change the source #1, !-- change the source #2)

In your blogger account, add or edit the "Html/Javascript" add-on/widget and paste your edited code. Click "save" and view your blog.

You must be able to see your random photos from your flickr account.

Wrap up

Login to your flickr account and make your html badge.
Do the changes in the code here.
Open your blogger account and go to "Page elements"
Edit your Html/Javascript add-on/widget
Save

ScribeFire: Web browser embedded blogging tool

I am testing ScribeFire's extension within Firefox.

"This is a full-featured blog editor that integrates with your browser and lets you easily post to your blog. You can drag and drop formatted text from pages you are browsing, take notes, and post to your blog."

So far, the installation went smoothly and that I can drag and drop images from the web page I am blogging, in this case Mozilla's add ons site.

Flock, a new browser experience

I just installed my Flock browser this afternoon and instantly liked it. Having to toggle between three browsers to check the compatibility of css, I say, I got one nifty browser app in my hands. It displayed my current labor of love (pinoycentric.com) without a hitch.

Am going to install the lite IE extension too so I get to test web pages against it. That would save me time toggling between IE and Flock.

The other feature I liked so much is the built-in blog service that supports many blogging API's. This is a very good tool within Flock as it makes blogging a step less than usual (this entry is done within flock)

If you have a Blogger account, you have to set the blog account manually since Flock's automated registration have errors.

I give this browser 4.5 stars!

Photo Exhibit Project

I have started some of my artworks for my planned Photo exhibit a year from now. I still don't have a venue or a sponsor.

My idea for a theme is that of my hometown. The people and the environment they're in. Whether my art becomes a social commentary or a plain scenery, we shall see.
